Felsefesinin temeli, ne kadar kökleşmiş olursa olsun, insanın coşkun enerjisini engelleyen her türlü öğretinin sorgulanıp ayıklanması ve bunun yerine hayatın olumlanmasıdır. Bu kapsamda Apollon-Dionysos ikiliği, güç istenci, bengi dönüş, üstinsan gibi anahtar kavramlar eşliğinde oluşturduğu felsefesinde kendini Deccal ilan edip Tanrı'nın öldüğünü ileri sürerek Zerdüşt kimliğiyle Batı kültürünü ıslah etmeye girişmiştir.Nietzsche'nin düşüncelerini döneminin bağlamına (Prusya militarizminin, Darwinci bilimin, antisemitizmin, gençlik ve özgürlük hareketlerinin yükselişi) yerleştiren elinizdeki biyografi, bahtsız filozofun hayatını bütün boyutlarıyla anlatmaktadır. Lou Salome'ye duyduğu umutsuz aşkın kişiliği üzerindeki yakıcı etkisini dile getirmekte, kırk dört yaşında aklını yitirmesinin sebeplerini anlamaya çalışmaktadır. Ölümünün ardından düşünsel mirasına el koyan kız kardeşi tarafından çarpıtılarak Nazizme felsefi payanda haline getirilen ve bu prangadan ancak on yıllar sonra kurtulan eserlerini, bütün alt anlamlarıyla birlikte titizlikle ele alıp incelemektedir.19-20. yüzyıl Alman felsefesi uzmanı olan yazar Profesör Julian Young, Nietzsche'nin hayatı ve felsefesine dair bugüne kadar yazılmış bu en kapsamlı biyografisinde özel bir bölümleme yapmıştır.
