The Allen & Heath ZED-14 mixer is a touring quality 14-channel mixer with USB IO that works well for live sound and studio recording. It has standard line level outputs, clean transparent preamps, and the USB out supports a 44.1kHz sampling rate. The mixer does not come with an amplified output stage. Users can connect a powered subwoofer through an active crossover such as the DBX 223. The mixer also allows users to record each channel separately, change the levels of each channel individually when recording to the PC, and route only two outputs in a DAW. Reviewers praise the ZED-14 for being solid, sturdy, versatile, and easy to use. The mixer has a nice and warm sound quality, plenty of routing possibilities, and is great for home recording studio and live rehearsals. However, some users find the phantom power switch difficult to press and some of the small black buttons stuck in the off position upon arrival. The USB interface only supports two channels, which is insufficient for a board with this many channels, and the low sampling rate may produce inConsistent results when pushed into a DAW. The +48V only applies to all 16 channels on or off, making it difficult to use with ribbons. The faders are light in feel and do not provide enough tactile feedback for proper mixing.
